Play Golf With a First Tee Caddie

About the Program

In conjunction with Indian Trails Golf Course, our caddie program at First Tee — West Michigan aims to empower youth by providing them with opportunities to learn and grow through golf. Our students undergo comprehensive training to become skilled caddies, ready to assist you during your next round at Indian Trails Golf Course. Thanks to our partnership with the City of Grand Rapids, rounds are discounted when you take a caddie – it’s just $10 for 9 holes, and $15 for 18!

About the Golf Course

Indian Trails Golf Course is located at 2776 Kalamazoo Ave SE, in Grand Rapids, MI. It is a municipal golf course, owned by the City of Grand Rapids. It has been opened for 90 years, and hosts more First Tee – West Michigan classes than any other site – more than 700 students have participated in First Tee’s classes in the past year at Indian Trails GC! This Par 62 golf course is an ideal walking course, with rolling hills and limited walks between green and tee. It’s a perfect place to enjoy a walk and take a caddie!

Why A Caddie Program?

First Tee – West Michigan believes that the game of golf is one of the best teachers. In caddying, our teens learn about hard work, build confidence, and communication skills, and learn more about this beautiful game.

We are strategic in who we invite to become caddies – our participants are those who have a strong desire to grow as leaders and communicators, but also who may be eligible in the future for a life-changing caddie scholarship through the Western Golf Association (the Evans Scholarship). This full-ride, room and board scholarship has already been awarded to 5 First Tee – West Michigan students, with our first Evans Scholar graduating from the University of Michigan in the spring of 2024. The other four students are enrolled at Michigan, Michigan State, or Notre Dame this fall. Students who are awarded the scholarship must have high academic achievement, have financial need, and have at least 100 caddie rounds completed before the start of their senior year in high school.

We hope this caddie program will create even more opportunities for this scholarship for our students, while along the way teaching First Tee’s 5 Key Commitments: Using Good Judgment, Growing through Challenge, Collaborating with Others, Building Positive Self-Identity, and Pursuing Goals.

For each round, caddies receive $30 or $50 bag fee from First Tee (9 or 18-hole rate), and a tip from the customer on top of that (expected minimum of $10 for 9 or $20 for 18).
