Why Golf?

Golf is unique from other sports because players learn values like honesty and responsibility by calling penalties on themselves and reporting their own score. The sport is a perfect platform for helping young people develop character because just like in life, players experience the highs and lows of the game.

What is First Tee – West Michigan?

We are a youth development organization dedicated to seeing our students succeed academically, socially, and athletically. Our Life Skills Experience provides an opportunity for all three.

What is the Life Skills Experience?

The Life Skills Experience is for students aged 7-17, and includes six-classes per session. Throughout the six classes, basic golf skills are taught alongside our Nine Core Values and Healthy Habits. Each session consists of a 90 minute class offered at various times during the week and weekend.

All participants new to First Tee will start in the PLAYer Level regardless of age or ability. If you would like more information on the Life Skills Experience, click here.

Is my child eligible to receive a scholarship to attend classes?

If your child is eligible for the free or reduced price lunch (FRPL) program at school and/or your family has been financially impacted due to COVID-19, they are eligible to enroll at the scholarship rate of $5 per six-class session.

How much does it cost?

$5 per six-class session for students on scholarship.
$70 per six-class session for full-price students
$0 for students who have purchased an annual Membership (see below)

How much is an annual Membership and what does it include?

The membership costs $150 for one child in a household and covers all six-class sessions for all seasons in 2021 including the 2021-2022 winter season.  We also offer a sibling discount, where you can obtain a membership for two children in the same family at the cost of $250.  Each additional child is an additional $50.  If you anticipate attending all year long, this is recommended to be purchased in the Spring.

*The membership does not include our Junior Golf & Life Skills League.

One of my children loves First Tee and Golf, the other engages in different sports and only wants to do First Tee in the summer.  Is the annual Membership the best value?

We get this question a lot.  What we recommend in this scenario is to purchase a Membership for the child that will be attending all year.  When the other wants to play in the summer, we offer a $10 discount for that enrollment, so it will cost $60 instead of $70, because you have at least one Membership for your household.

What are you doing to safeguard from COVID-19?

In 2021, we will continue to take several additional safety precautions to keep your children safe during activities, including offering hand sanitizer, programs with social distancing, and eliminating the sharing of golf equipment.
